My comments are about a terrific lady named Wendy, at the Customer Service counter at the Albertsons in Gig Harbor, Washington.
About a week ago or so, to cheer my 77 year old wife up in the midst of the coronavirus, I bought her what I thought was her all-time favorite pie, a cherry pie, and also her favorite brand of coffee pod. Well. It turnout that the pie was mislabeled -- it was a strawberry/rhubarb, a pie she does not like, and I picked up the wrong coffee flavor. So back I went the next day to try and return them. Wendy was at the counter talking with another store employee, and it was obvious she was having a difficult day, being harassed and sworn at by several customers, 8 of whom used the F-U term to her about her not being able to get them what they wanted online. In each case she had given them the website information and told them how to do it, but apparently that wasn't good enough. But as bad a day as it was, she turned to me with a smile. I showed her the mis-marked pie and the wrong coffee flavor. She told me to wait there and she'd be right back. She took the mis-marked pie, ran back to the bakery, found a pie marked cherry, got a toothpick, stabbed it into the pie to make sure a cherry came out, and ran back. I know, I know, this all sounds a little bit like the old rhyme about the pie who stuck in his thumb and pulled out a plum, etc. -- but it was a clean toothpick and it pulled out a cherry.
She ran back with the pie. But since I had more shopping to do and would have go through a checkstand, I wasn't sure how to do that with the exchange I need to do with the coffee. So then and then accompanied me to the coffee aisle, where we found the right blend, and came back to the customer service counter. She wrapped both up and left them there while I did my grocery shopping , and when I was done, I came up, and she handed me the right pie and coffee with a big smile.
This is what true customer service is all about, and she was the personification of outstanding customer service! She should be commended by Albertsons for her willingness to go the second and third mile for a customer -- and you could sure use more excellent professionals like Wendy!
