An incidental concerning my report on my Magellan Roadmate 1700 LM which I did not think to add. I had had problems with the unit since new, in that it did not hold a charge for longer than about 10 minutes. I had been in contact with a Magellan Tech Service Rep about this issue and had been assured that as long as there was charge in the battery, the USB cable would keep the unit charged long enough to complete updates. This is not the case at all.

My Roadmate 1700 LM, after taking a software update from Magellan, quit working. This unit had been used perhaps three times, and had been updated prior to each use, but the warranty has run out. As far as I am concerned, Magellan's updates are designed to brick the units after a period of time. I have bought my last Magellan, and have replaced this unit with a Garmin Dezl 760LM. I still have one Magellan unit, an old Sportrak Color, but it will be replaced by some other brand as soon as it dies.

First time buyer and Using Magellan GPS...The handbook almost useless. Their Support site is Terrible too. It should be easy like just 2 Steps. 1. Battery Charge...Its not easy at all for my Car and need to Ignition on for 3 hours? 2. Download Software...just plug in then auto download...?NO...Its not automatically...its Complicate! Finally done 2 steps...THEN never ever can LOCATE my current location and TIME? What a Products!!!

So,
I bought an online map for $50 and was told that the email with the link to download it would be there within 30 minutes. I then spend the next three days argueing and trying to explain to C.S. that I never got the email with the link. They finally understand the problem, and it takes them another five days to "find" someone who can send me the link. I received it today, and you guessed it, it doesn't do anything. Still waiting for my $50 map.

2hrs 20min wait;dummest so called techs.pretty much the same experience as the other 84 percent.looking at the ratings,i fear nothing will be done by the company. i will be going on amazon and ebay to warn people about this company.never had problems with my garmin and tom tom..google maps is free and way better than magellan

Absolutely brutally poor customer service!
I purchased one of their GPS's,and it worked for one trip only,then continually shut down on it's own.The first Magellan agent I spoke with told me it would be replaced with a refurbished product,but only after I paid to ship it to them,They insisted it was part of the warranty that I should have read. Finally after speaking to another representative,they said they would send me a shipping label to use,which I did and returned the GPS.(still getting back a refurbished product) After 3 weeks of waiting,I contacted them and they insisted that they didn't receive the product and that I had it. Even after speaking to a Manager,I was told the same thing and that they were not going to help me,as I didn't send them the product. (Basically calling me a liar). I told the Manager that UPS has a signature from their Company that proves they received it,and they still insisted that I had the product. It's now been over a Month. I emailed the Manager the proof that they rec'd the product and signed for it,but the Manager has not got back to me. NEVER again will I buy a Magellan product!!

Just another voice of complaint for Magellan RoadMate GPS 1700. Paid $250 for it and it just stopped working after a bit more than one year. How convenient! This is a piece of crap.

I cantacted magellan via the 800 number, and someone speaking something other then english answered and immediately just hung up, so I tried their online chat. I told them, I am trying to install there somewhere on my windows 8.1 system and it would just hang up my system causing me to reboot, and then when I rebooted, I immediately uninstalled via control panel and it deleted the software but also the created directory I put it in. I am glad I put in its own directory, because it should never delete the parent directory, how dangerous is that. Also, when I tried to install in compatibility mode, it said it was only compatible in windows vista. Very outdated stuff they are furnishing their customers. she ended chat and said she would send me instructions, which she did not

Magellan has false advertising, period. It would appear their products are compatible with Mac computers, but largely are NOT. Their interface to make updates is a joke and a total waste of time.

If you like waiting on hold, this is the company for you. The staff on their tech support are also very rude. I will NEVER buy another Magellan Product.

Save yourself the headache and buy a different brand.

This company sucks. Don't be duped into buying any of their crap from any of the shopping channels. There is no way to get the maps updated--despite the promise of free map updates. Their customer is just designed to run you around and waste your time Their maps are dangerously inaccurate. Take my advice--buy a Garmin--Magellan really, really sucks.Dcontent manager" It doesn't work--and will waste hours of your time.

I have never had a worse product in my life then the Magellan roadmate gps.Their soft ware blows up and leaves you stranded time and time again. They are easy to reach, but full of exscuses and then try to sell you a new one when theirs blows up.My navagon has outlasted three magellans. DONT BUY MAGELLANS THEY STINK.

Could not download map updates so attempted to contact customer service via email and phone for assistance. Could NOT access "human" help via their site; and the phone numbers printed on their information were either disconnected or had been changed or didn't exist. VERY DISSATISFIED! Long live GARMIN!

I bought a Magellan 5040LM and it never worked well from the beginning always freezing and bad directins has me going in circles a real POS will try a tom TOM and throw the Magellan where it belongs In the Toilet

We have just purchase one of your products
and had several questions. We called the "contact us" number 5 times and were left on hold waiting for a rep for 20+ minutes each time. We have yet to contact someone in your company

We like your product, but we would rate your customer service as non existant. There is no place to complain on your website or where to escalate a complaint
or concern.

I tink you get a bad name when you use tose peoples in the forein contry the don't care and e take 30 minutes before the inserin I will not by another Magellan bad support and bad quality.i have a rodmate and e don't work in Europe I spand mony for noting and bad support

Contacted Magellan on Wednesday 23 Oct
Spoke with Tech. regarding very slow signal acquisition (4-6 miles of driving before signal are picked up) then GPS positioning is somewhat inaccurate. I performed the analyze and defragment
Software and maps up to date

Total Time 48 minutes

Performed a local GPS check and the unit signal acquisition was just as slow. I committed to perform a “in vehicle” test

Thursday 24th Oct,
My wife drove the vehicle. When she returned she commented that she actually got to her destination just over 6 miles away, parked under a tree, then the GPS acquired signal. She left the unit powered up. On return home while crossing a bridge the unit had the vehicle actually crossing the lake some 250 + yds to the right of the bridge. Her GPS (Tomtom) has completed signal acquisition before she can get off the drive

Today: Friday 25th Oct
Spent 45 minutes talking to the tech going through all of the above, not once, not twice but three times. The tech was supposedly transferring me to his supervision for replacement/upgraded of the unit . Got transferred to a customer service rep who commenced the who process again. I gave them the file reference: XXXXXXX. I explained the above and that supposedly I was being transferred to a supervisor. She then put me on hold for a supervisor. 20 minutes later nothing but music. I had to run to the bathroom

Total time: ONE Hour

Dialed Magellan back, and been sitting here are 22 minutes, gave up in dire desperation

I have three of your units, not very impressed at all.

I have been trying to download "PhantomAlerts" for the past 3 days,for my Magellan RoadMate 2230T-LM without success. your representative in Manila, is unable to help. I am very angry about this issue. serial # for the RoadMate If this issue is not resolved I will file a complaint with (1)BBB, (2) FTC and (3)Consumer Protection agency.org. I paid $32.46 for this service. I want a refund of my entire sum immediately. Their support

I recently replaced the charger for a Magellan gps that was bought exactly 2 years ago. The charger worked one time only,then the gps stopped working. I bought the unit at London Drugs in Vancouver,B.C. I have used it probably 6 times since the purchase. I've found the bill and I am very upset that after such little use & only a 2 year old purchase,that it is no longer usable. I would like to request a full refund.It seems highly unlikely that a system would cease to work after such a short time. I'd appreciate hearing from someone in customer service. kindly,judy bates

Worst customer service ever. I am now on the phone on hold on supposedly a lower traffic day according to their recording. This is the 3rd time that I have been unable to reach someone. I have had a number of Magellan GPS (because they breakdown and are covered under warrenty) but based on customer service I will never buy one again. I tried contacting them via e-mail on their website but it came back with some sort of a rejection message/ not able to deliver.
