I had a very upsetting experience at the Lenexa, Kansas Steinmart on 4-17-17. I was at the end of the line of 4 customers at checkout when they paged for customer assistance. I waited while the clerk took her time putting some items in the office, then I proceeded to the empty cash register in hopes she would head over to begin checking me out. While standing in line, another customer got in line behind me. The clerk finally made it over to the register, looked directly at me and said loudly, "I will take the next customer" Apparently she decided I was not a customer and should not be allowed to check out. She told me to get out of line because the person behind me was the "next customer". I couldn't believe what I had heard. I gladly explained I had been waiting in the first line, with 3 customers ahead. I chose to move to the new lane when they paged for her.

I chose to leave my purchases on the Steinmart counter. She then tried to say that she didn't realize I was next in line. Not sure how she came to that conclusion, as there was no one in front of me.

Called the store manager, Jeff. He defended his employee, said he would need to get her side of the story. He can get her side of the story and while he is doing that I will take my business elsewhere. It is unfortunate, because I have never experienced such rudeness from Steinmart employees before.

This is the second time when this unacceptable situation had taken place. Two items in my order had been substituted for two other items that I would never even thought of ordering - without any prior notification regarding this inappropriate exchange. Moreover, the invoice attached to the order stated the original items, - not substitutions (basically - fraudulent invoice). When the item is not available - the customer cannot be charged for it and is notified that the items are not available (although there were available online at the time of ordering). The cannot be any substitutions issued! this practice is unheard of - is this how Stein Mart is getting rid of unwanted items?!

And how do it even occur to someone to send the replacement that the customer had never ordered or had even seen?! Two pair of sport cotton pants were sent instead of color-blocked jacket?!!! This is absolutely outrageous, inappropriate, and outright ridiculous! If this is how Stein Mart treats the regular customers - what can the others expect?

I do hereby request the money to be returned for those two items.

The items that I have not received are the follows:

, Size L; Color Blocked Stripe Studded jacket for $12.56
Size M; Color Blocked Stripe Studded Jacket for $12.56

Instead of mentioned above items, I have received two pairs of grey cotton pants that no one probably wanted. Also, since I have been sent something that I have never asked for - isn't it normally considered a gift?!

Advise on your follow-up ASAP.

I am also going to follow up with Headquarters on this matter.

I called the uptown the New Orleans, La. The operator was less than courteous and not very informative as was the operator at the Metairie store. The salesperson I spoke in the New Orleans store was impatient and unfriendly. She eventually came back to the phone. I gave her the 3 style numbers from on line, she said she had none of them, not telling me they would never be found in the register because the in store numbers were different. (I found this info out from the operator at the Metairie store that I called next). I understand phone searches are time consuming I was patient. Even if the salesperson is too busy at that time to search, it is not what you say but how you say it! I was left feeling like I was intruding on someone who is suppose to be making an effort to create an atmosphere so customers will want to go into the store to make purchases. I have no desire to go into the uptown store.

First time in this store on a Friday, I bought a wrap and shoes for my 17th Anniversary for the following evening at the Kingwood,Tx location. I live 49 miles from the nearest one and this was it. The clerk forgot to remove the security device from the wrap so I was unable to wear it for the occasion. I returned to the same store Monday to have it removed and to return the shoes, with my receipt but I was not able to return the shoes as I left the debit card in another purse ...49 miles away. I explained the money had already been debited from my account but was told it still needed to be placed on the card. This will certainly be the last time I ever shop in any Stein Mart.

I live in Nashville Tn and frequent the Stein Mart store on White Bridge Rd and Franklin. The service at White Bridge Rd is horrible. One sales clerk Candy is the only person concerned with customer service. Today there was a manager and all sorts of sales clerks hanging around while Candy waited on a long line of customers. The manager finally paged for help and the lady walked up at a snail's pace, looked out the front door, put a plastic bag in the trash can and finally started helping customers. I will NEVER set foot in that place again.

Posted by Not Happy with Stein Mart's Bank

I am very unhappy with the bank Stein Mart selected to host their credit cards. I was hung up on and shuffled back and forth after not receiving a card. There is no way to talk to a human without being charged $10, and the website is inaccessible without the security code on the back of the non-existent card. I am not even sure how to cancel the d--- account! What a scam. I have now decided I won't shop at Stein Mart again, given the poor customer service by their bank.

The one hand at Stein Mart Rewards doesn't know what the other hand is doing. Their telephone customer service is terrible! The Rewards staff supervisor, Bill, could not tell me if I would be getting preferred points with the credit card, Even though, I eventually found directly on their website that I would get preferred points with the card. Notwithstanding, their sales are great, but watch out you will be overcharged on the same items in different stores. The prices change from one day to the next. I got a blue slash item at a greatly reduced price, but the next day it cost 400% more at another store. The prices go up and down on the same items depending on the daily coupons. It gets vert confusing. Some cashiers will give you the additional 20% off coupon on everything, others will not. Or they will entirely forget to provide any discount whatsoever. Make sure you go over your receipts carefully!

In my 40 plus years of dealing with Steinmart, I had the worst experience ever and even at store. I purchased a red top layered around the neck. Carried it back for a return, chose another item for the same price, received what I thought was the appropriate receipt so I am on my way. Tried the dress on and it was too small so now I am out of Hattiesburg back in Port Gibson. Had to fly to DC so I brought the dress to the Jackson Steinmart only to find that the young lady who waited on me had given me the wrong receipt. So I call the Hattiesburg store, speak to who was said to be the manager, and that's where the breakdown started. She promised to call me back in 15 minutes after she look at the camera to see the transaction, but she never did call back. So I called her back in about 2 hours and I was told she had left for the day. So patiently I waited for two to three days and then called back and ask for a manager. This manager acknowledged that she was a manager and told me to carry the dress back to the Jackson store after I told her Hattiesburg is 3 hours from where I live. Never did she mention I could not get my money back. The young man in the door called the manager. Boy! I can see why everyone is streaming racism. She came with a nasty attitude, spoke with a nasty attitude and I left her with a nasty attitude. In the meantime, I had the Hattiesburg store manager on and she was WORST. No acknowledgement of integrity or professionalism and straight out argued on the phone forcing me to hang up. Now, we all know, cameras show what happens, phone records are archived and re-used for legal or recreational purposes, but these people still don't understand that THEY made the mistake, not me. The young lady actually gave me the ticket. The manager from Hattiesburg said I didn't buy a red top. Well, if they rewind that video, I stayed in that store almost 2 hours at first and went only in ladies' clothing. The red to should be seen on camera. I looked today in Jackson, they had the same shirt. But ALL YOU have to do is pull the CAMERA! Legally, spiritually, and physically, they should give me my money back and apologize. In a court of law, they will have that video pulled and the phone records and STEINMART will be looking stupid. I am pursuing it to the LAST! Too unprofessional. I had uneducated, street people to act more professional. I just want my money back. Someone out of Whitfield would know that you MUST demonstrate customer service. I wonder what these Administrators and CEO would do if they know how these unprofessional people are doing to their business. I want justice voluntarily, or I will get it in another way. And that's the bottom line. Mistakes in this correspondence is free and are MISTAKES. We all make them.

My name is Victor V. Cunningham, and I live in the Jackson, MS metro area. I'm a former Merchandising Manager with this company working at the Dogwood Promenade Store from October of 2008 until January 2010. According to all accounts I left the company in good standing. I frequently shop Store #6, when I say frequently I mean at least once a week. I've always liked the selection and convenience of the store as I'm getting off work. Keep in mind I live in Madison and could easily stop in at that store but I choose to come to the I-55 store. Every since the new store manager Lucy has taken over I'm being targeted and followed each time I enter the store. At first it was the page for security and then security from the outside would come in and walk the perimeter of where I just happen to shopping......he later told me that's why he was coming in. I even overheard her at one time tell one of the workers to watch me, I don't know his name but I could tell the urgency in his demeanor each time I would enter even to the point of a look of sarcasm on his face when I would walk in the door, and his willingness to run and ring me up every time I checked out. On one occasion I identified myself as a former manager to Lucy as she stood watching the young man ring me up. After that security quit coming from the outside, but the young man continued to hawk eye me. On last evening 5/15/2015, I entered the store went to the $5.00 room spoke to the workers back there, continued to the Linens Dept., picked out sheets, pillows, and a quilt; came to the front and got a buggy. I stopped and held a conversation with the manager Frankie, proceeded to shop around, picked up a shirt, went to the Shoe Dept. tried on a couple pairs, mind you leaving my buggy several feet away. As I left the Shoe Dept. out comes this white security person......as walked past ties stopping to look at your 1.98 socks he stops within feet of me pretending to use his phone.....I ventured on looking with him in toe. I've been in retail 21 years and know the codes and the plain clothes store detectives. I turned went and got underwear, came back and ran into Frankie, where I cursed and told her I was tired of being followed each time I entered that store by this time he's standing over in jewelry still watching me. I proceeded to check out he walked outside retrieved a buggy came back in and pretended to arrange them. He questioned me about what I said to Frankie as far as my cursing... and that he was protecting his people. I told him I didn't appreciate being followed every time I'm in the store. I told me to while standing off at register 3 to lower my voice and get out if the store I told him I would after I paid for my purchase, which I did $127.37 to be exact. I asked for corporates number which I received and left a message on last evening and will follow up on Monday with another message voice-to-voice with someone there. I left and then I decided I will never shop SteinMart again, I made the block and brought back everything I had just purchased. I was on Facebook last night telling of the account to friends and relatives, asking them to no longer shop there....by the way my grandmother had 14 children 9 of them girls which were avid SteinMart shoppers. This morning I disturbed my lawyer and I will be in his office on Monday morning, because I feel this has been a case of racial profiling and just because I come in every week, I've helped with sales big or small. I've never but on one occasion returned an item and that was because it was cut in the pattern unbeknownst to me or the sales person who rang the night before. At work the next day one of my sales associates noticed it because of the white tee I was wearing underneath. I'm still livid about the incident and I wont stop until I receive justice. My integrity means a whole lot to me. As said earlier I'm in management and the protection of your assets is justified but SteinMart Store #6 has gotten ridiculous in its protection antics. I don't any coupons....and speaking of those I haven't used my Birthday Coupon ever that should tell you something about my wanting your product price or discount really doesn't matter. And another thing I park in the Handicap Parking Space right in front of the store so if I was trying to steal you would certainly have my tag number from the outside cameras and from someone running out and writing down. That really would be stupid on my part.....but we're going to see who the stupid ones are because I'm certainly seeking legal actions with this MATTER! I don't want to contacted by email and this morning I Unsubscribed to anything from SteinMart
